Half-plane contact problems in partial slip with varying normal and tangential loads

چکیده
Simple methods of finding the transient and steady state stick zones for frictional contacts subject to varying normal shear forces are discussed. Particular emphasis is given Hertzian contact because algebra very simple this geometry, but results may be carried over any other geometry that can solved within framework half plane theory, including widely-occurring flat with radiused edges.

Fracturing at contact surfaces subjected to normal and tangential loads
A variety of rock engineering problems including drilling, cutting, abrasion and milling involve rock-tool contact and indentation. The pattern of indentation fractures and the role of slip conditions, surface roughness, tool radius, and initial aw size for an arbitrarily loaded contact are not fully known. The present paper aims to identify the elastic stress eld for a contact subjected to bot...
متن کاملDynamics of fingertip contact during the onset of tangential slip
Through highly precise perceptual and sensorimotor activities, the human tactile system continuously acquires information about the environment. Mechanical interactions between the skin at the point of contact and a touched surface serve as the source of this tactile information. Using a dedicated custom robotic platform, we imaged skin deformation at the contact area between the finger and a f...
متن کاملStick, partial slip and sliding in the plane strain micro contact of two elastic bodies
The plane strain problem of a curved elastic body pressed against an elastic half-space is considered. The effect of adhesion is included through the use of surface energy in a manner similar to the well-known JKR theory for spherical contacts. The compressive normal force is held constant while a tangential force is gradually increased from zero. The contact is characterized by complete stick ...
متن کاملDynamic Contact Problems with Slip-dependent Friction in Viscoelasticity
The dynamic evolution with frictional contact of a viscoelastic body is considered. The assumptions on the functions used in modelling the contact are broad enough to include both the normal compliance and the Tresca models. The friction law uses a friction coefficient which is a non-monotone function of the slip. The existence and uniqueness of the solution are proved in the general three-dime...
